Jim Long
Coach Jim Long begins his 13th year as head coach of the Brenham Cubs.
Long is a native of
Texas City, Texas where he graduated and was all district in baseball and basketball. He attended and played baseball at the
University of Mary Hardin Baylor and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree. After graduation he spent a year in the
minors before taking his first coaching job in Baytown, Texas

In 1998 he went
to El Campo High School as an assistant baseball coach. In 1990 he became a head coach and has taken his teams to the playoffs
every year.
Long’s head coaching career record is a combined 417 wins, 143 losses and 1 tie. His teams
have won a record 24 consecutive district games.
His 1993, 1999 and 2003 teams made it to the state tournament in Austin.
Coach
Long has been named district Coach of the Year in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006.
His
wife, Daphne, is the Human Resources director for the Brenham Independent School District. There are five children in the
Long family, Chelsea, 22 and twins Haley and Holly, age 20, Grant, 28 and Jamie Lee, 31.
