Jim Long

Coach Jim Long begins his 9th year as head coach of the Brenham Cubs.

Long is a native of Texas City, Texas where he graduated and was all district in baseball and basketball. He attended and played baseball at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree. After graduation he spent a year in the minors before taking his first coaching job in Baytown, Texas

He has been in the coaching profession for 22 years. He begins his 15th year as a head baseball coach.

In 1998 he went to El Campo High School as an assistant baseball coach. In 1990 he became a head coach and has taken his teams to the playoffs every year.

Long’s head coaching career record is a combined 303 wins, 103 losses and 1 tie. His teams have won a record 24 consecutive district games.

His 1993, 1999 and 2003 teams made it to the state tournament in Austin.

Coach Long has been named district Coach of the Year in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001 and 2003.

His wife, Daphne, is the Human Resources director for the Brenham Independent School District. They have three children, Chelsea, 20 and twins Haley and Holly, age 18.
